We had the honor again last week to host another sold out course for the Dawson Academy. The “Restoring Anterior Teeth ” course was presented by senior Dawson Academy Faculty Dr. Scott Finlay, DDS, FAGD, FAACD. Dr. Finlay was assisted by Dr. Raj Upadya, DMD, and Dr. Jennifer Kalochie, DMD.
The skills and lessons learned in the very hands-on “Restoring Anterior Teeth” course are key in the practice of complete dentistry. Some of the topics discussed and taught by Dr. Finlay and his team were material selection, projecting aesthetic and functional changes through diagnostic models, the importance of digital photography and creating prep reduction guides and provisional matrices.
We decided to do our regular Thursday night reception a little differently for this course. As a Valentine’s Day treat, our regular wine sommelier, Ian Honaker, brought some of his choice gourmet chocolates. What a treat! We also had a wonderful meal prepared, in house, by Ruth’s Chris executive chef Rick Overbey. There’s no better way to wind down than a wonderful meal, specialty chocolates, and great wine. Thank you to everyone who made it out.
During the course we also had a few doctors take advantage of our free dental staff training. Bring your assistant along and we will work with them on their lab assisting skills as you learn with the doctors. Best of all, it’s free for our clients. One of our head lab technicians, Marla Nolan, gave a wonderful lecture on how to take the perfect in-office shade photos. Lab manager Harold Yates spent time teaching the participants the ins-and-outs of properly pouring and mounting models and taking accurate facebow records. Understanding the importance of lab communication and proper records will greatly improve your staff’s knowledge, efficiency, and productivity.
